Working in the firearm industry, I get to meet some really cool people and work with some amazing companies. Over 5 years ago, I was part of a now defunct online firearms forum where I first met Murray Hill of MHLeatherworks. At the time, Hill, a retired US Navy veteran, was handcrafting custom leather holsters, and I agreed to test out one of his belt holsters and provide feedback for him.

Although I rarely belt carry, five years later I still grab that holster when belt carry suits my needs. To date, while it hasn’t gotten constant use, the retention and fit are still as fantastic as the day I got it. It rides close to the body and doesn’t have a lot of bulk to cause printing like some leather belt holsters. Since creating mine Mr. Hill has tweaked his design a few times, and he’s also branched out from basic belt holsters to custom leather creations.
MH Leatherworks has transformed over the past few years and while his main focus remains handcrafting custom leather holsters, he’s branched out to a bunch of special products featuring incredible detail and workmanship. Even his holsters have gone from plain (although still popular and available) to specially carved or inlayed with custom designs.
Some of the custom leather work recently produced include:
- Cup sleeves
- Knife sheaths
- Firematic radio carriers
- Magazine carriers
- Coffee cup cozies
- Speedloader pouches
- Keyfobs
- Rifle cuffs
- Shell carriers
