One of my favorite stops each year at SHOT Show is the Coast booth. If you know me well, you know I have a “thing” for guns, knives and flashlights. Coast makes 2 of those 3!
Shortly after arriving home from SHOT Show, I received the new Coast 600R LED flashlight to review. What’s different about this light, and what caught my eye while looking at it at the show, is that this flashlight is equipped with Coast’s “Dual Power” system, allowing it to function both as a rechargeable flashlight as well as battery operated.
I’m not the type of writer who receives a product to review, uses it for a few minutes and then rehashes the company website in a so-called review. When I review something, it’s tested to the fullest. I’ve had the 600R since February 2017. I’ve used it almost daily since receiving it, generally at night when I walk my dog. Here’s the thing… in those 10 months I’ve recharged it twice. That’s right, 2 times. The funny thing is, I didn’t recharge it the first time because it was dead, I recharged it because we had an impending blizzard (March 17, 2017) and I wanted to make sure I had a dependable, strong flashlight on hand just in case we lost power. It finally lost power about 3 weeks ago and I had to plug it in for the 3rd time.

Despite the rugged grip, I’ve dropped it on pavement more than once; it shows no sign of wear. I can attest 100% to this lights durability. The beam focuses from wide to a spotlight, with excellent coverage.
The Coast Polysteel 600R will continue to accompany me on my nightly walks with my greyhound. The 810 foot beam distance allows me to spot deer and other critters, both in the woods and in the yard. (Sometimes I see are reflected eyes looking back at me, I like to assume those are deer as well.) It’s crazy how far you can see with this flashlight!
This flashlight is a winner in my book! The rechargeable battery life has proven to be phenomenal. The fact that I can use regular batteries in it as well, is a bonus.I have a lot of flashlights on-hand, and one thing I’ve learned is, you get what you pay for. At a retail price of $100, this flashlight won’t disappoint. I look forward to seeing what Coast has to offer this year!
