“Ready when you need it, safe when you don’t.” An interesting new concept just hit the handgun world, and this one is all about safety. GoSafe is a new, innovative way to secure your firearm while keeping it within reach in case you need it.

Until recently, locking away your handgun meant storing it in a safe, somewhere out of reach and where unwanted hands couldn’t operate the gun. That’s until GoSafe came along. This device is a safe inside your firearm.

Why it’s different: Available in 2 styles (Mobile Safe / Mag Safe), the GoSafe fits inside your firearm, taking the place of your magazine. With its integrated lock system, it is impossible to fire the gun while locked. The Mobile Mag is a fully functioning loadable magazine. The Mag Safe is a magazine-shaped internal safe that locks into place when inserted into your handgun.

I’ve described both styles in more detail below, but both styles work with Camlock locks for the highest level of security.

Mobile Mag: A fully functional loadable magazine, compatible with your firearm model. Mobile Mag has a keyed locking feature on the mag plate, which when in the locked position, does not allow the gun to fire. Capacity is limited to 10 rounds. It’s both a magazine AND a safe, and can be unlocked in mere seconds.

If using the Mobile Mag, you can easily and safely check to see if your GoSafe is locked:

• Check the key position. The Mobile Mag is labeled SAFE and FIRE. If the key is in line with SAFE, your gun is locked.
• Tactile check: On the base, a tactile indicator pin will sit flush when in the FIRE position, and extend when in SAFE (locked). You’ll know if you’re locked or ready to fire with the touch of a finger.

Mobile Safe: A non-functioning, non-loadable dummy magazine, featuring a keyed lock on the base plate. The Mobile Safe contains no ammunition, it is only an internal gun safe. In order to operate the handgun, the Mobile Safe needs to be unlocked and dropped in order to facilitate a reload with a properly loaded magazine. With practice, this should take seconds to do. Easy to lock and unlock within seconds.

How it works:

• Inserting and locking the Mobile Safe blocks the trigger and locks the slide.
• The Mobile Safe can’t be removed while locked as the magazine release will not release until the unit is in the unlocked position.
• Once unlocked, the user can drop the Mobile Safe exactly as you would drop an empty magazine, and insert a normal fully loaded magazine.
• GoSafe is compatible with all holsters as it sits internally inside your handgun, same as your magazine would.

Additional keys can be ordered to match your GoSafe.

A discrete key cover is included with both GoSafe styles. The cover has an adhesive backing which some users opt to adhere to the back of their cell phone making it handy and always within reach.

A retractable lanyard is available to hold your key on your belt, in your purse or anywhere close that you find convenient.

Bottom line: This is an innovative way to secure your handgun, yet keep it available and ready to use. It’s a good option that prevents unauthorized use of your gun, yet it can be easily accessable with the turn of a key. The locking / unlocking of a GoSafe should be part of your dryfire routine if you’re securing your handgun this way. Practice makes perfect – so practice with it until it becomes second nature because it sure beats locking your hangun up in a big, bulky, hard-to-open gun safe!
